For Foodies who want more food, The Ivy is offering a unique experience this winter; an entire opera show whilst you dine. Teaming up with The Emirates Opera Project, each evening is inspired by a different European operatic cultural tradition, with an accompanying menu influenced by the host country accompanying each show.

Formed in the late noughties, The Emirates Opera Project is a group of traditionally trained classical singers, led by Chritine Belbian (previously of La Scala Opera Hall in Milan) that is fast becoming one of the most exciting acts the UAE has on offer.

The collaboration’s opera season launched with a bang, with the restaurant hosting a French-inspired night. Performing without a stage (previous shows left some diners without a view) the opera singers created a sense of opera-in-the-round weaving their way in and out of the tables, with the space in the restaurant allowing for the performances of well-known French classics such as Belle nuit, o nuit d’amour (Beautiful night, night of love) to reverberate well around the space – even for diners sitting closest to the performers.

In between performances a leisurely amount of time was allowed for guests to swill their drinks and finish their courses without feeling under pressure of clearing their plate before the next act. Dishes from the set menu included a delectable French liver parfait, tuna tartare and a succulent short rib Bourgogne. Next on the calendar for the group is a much-anticipated German opera night October 29, followed by The Classics (November 19) and A Christmas Carol (December 10).
