How many burpees do you think you do on an average day? We’re going to go ahead and assume that it’s significantly less than 15,000. But that’s exactly what UAE-based personal trainers Lee Ryan and Eva Clark will be aiming for on January 9, when they attempt to smash the Guinness World Record for the most performed by a male and female team pair in 24 hours.

If just the thought of that makes you feel tired, consider that the current record is 12,000 for men and 10,000 for women. It’s all for a good cause though, as the fitness experts are aiming to raise money for World Child Cancer. You can sponsor them at justgiving.com/24hourburpee.

Admittedly, it doesn’t sound like the most relaxing way to spend 24 hours. Why thousands of burpees?

“Why not?” says Lee. “We have been blessed with the physical and mental ability to attempt and even think of trying something. Why wouldn’t we use it to help the people that are not so lucky. Putting our bodies on the line to help raise the awareness and funds to help these kids, give them a reason a smile and a chance at life.”

They’ll also be attempting a number of other records on the day, including the most burpees in one minute. The event will take place at Dubai Autodrome, and if you’re feeling fit, they’ve got plans to involve the crowd. All will be revealed closer to the big day.

It’s not Dubai-dweller Lee’s first try at breaking a world record. The Adidas-sponsored athlete has twice attempted to run the ‘fastest marathon while carrying a 20lb backpack’, a challenge he will be taking on again come April 26 at the Virgin Money London Marathon 2015.

Abu Dhabi-based Eva is already a world record holder, having claimed the record for most number of knuckle push-ups performed in a 24 hour period.
