Dubai’s ability to attract some of the biggest names in hip hop has continued in 2015 with the announcement that Soulja Boy is jetting in for a show at Armani/Prive in the Burj Khalifa.

The rapper will take to the stage on January 31 as part of a promotional tour for his new album, ‘Loyalty’. Fans, though, can expect plenty from his back catalogue, including his hugely-popular breakthrough smash, ‘Crank That (Soulja Boy)’.

That track, which was released in 2007, spawned its very own dance that was replicated in dance halls from his hometown of Chicago to all corners of the globe. Reaching the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 having initially only been made available on online, it catapulted the then teenager into the limelight.

It was followed by equally catchy tunes like ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone’ and ‘Turn My Swag On’.

The arrival of Soulja Boy, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, comes following the release of the first majoy hip hop video to be shot exclusively in Dubai. Tinie Tempah’s ‘Flash’ was shot over a weekend the UK rapper spent in the Emirates in December, during which time he performed a special one-off concert at White Dubai on the Meydan Grandstand rooftop.

Other parts of the four and half minute mini-movie, which acts as something of a showcase for Dubai, show many of our most famous landmarks, including, of course, Burj Al Arab. Tinie can be seen on board a boat both in the Marina and in front of Atlantis The Palm. The 26-year-old, real name Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, stayed at Fairmont The Palm during his stay, and the hotel features extensively in the shape of table tennis and football on the beach, traditional Emirati tea in the lobby, and the hiring of a luxury yacht. Elsewhere, the Londoner can be seen driving his Mercedes alongside the Dubai Tram and down Sheikh Zayed Road, and enjoying dinner at Mint Leaf Of London.

Later this year, Drake will make his Middle East bow with a show at Dubai International Stadium, while John Legend is also coming to the region, for the Dubai Jazz Festival.
