The brand new GMC Sierra pickup truck has been announced as the latest addition to the Dubai Police force’s already impressive super fleet – but it’s arguably the most practical of the lot.

Since April 2013, the Dubai Police force has built a luxurious collection of police supercars which has succeeded in receiving media attention worldwide.

Officers are now getting behind the wheels of some of the fastest and most prestigious cars in the world including the Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari FF and Lamborghini Aventador.

But while the force has a seriously cool collection of high-performance cars, none of these could properly chase someone over the acres of sand and desert dunes that envelop our city. That is, until now.

A photo uploaded to the Twitter feed of a Dubai police spokesman shows that a GMC Sierra has been customised for the Dubai Police Force to give optimal off-roading performance. It’s been given bigger wheels, and lifted. It has some super cool fender flares and a light bar to chase cars in the dark – all strong indicators that this new vehicle will be put to proper work unlike the rest of the which are predominantly used as promotional tools.

One such promotional campaign took place in February this year when Dubai Police were out in full force to produce an incredible – if slightly hair-raising – video showing the likes of the Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, Mercedes G Class and Lamborghini Aventador on the streets of Dubai.

Late last year even the Dubai Ambulance service got in on the act when they announced the launch of the ‘fastest ambulance in the world’, a Lotus Evora. The car is only used by 50 specially-trained paramedic, acting only as a means for medically trained professionals to arrive on scenes far quick to administer vital first aid.
