Fans of Scottish rock rejoice, as two great gigs have just been announced: Texas is returning to Dubai in November, while Simple Minds are heading here in January.

Both bands will play at The Irish Village (ticket prices and exact dates have yet to be announced, but we’ll keep you posted).

Simple Minds are best known for their 1985 classic Don’t You Forget About Me (which fans of The Breakfast Club will know well), while you’d be hard pressed to listen to I Don’t Want A Lover or Say What You Want by Texas and not sing along.

We can vouch for the fact that Texas will be a great gig: their last show in January 2014, also at the Irish Village, won the coveted Favourite Music event at the 2014 What’s On Awards, beating out stiff competition from Kings Of Leon at Atlantis the Palm and Alicia Keys at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.

Texas is made up of lead singer Sharleen Spiteri, Ally McErlaine, Johnny McElhone, Eddie Campbell, Tony McGovern, Michael Bannister and Ross McFarlane.

While Simple Minds is made up of founding members Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, and current band members Mel Gaynor, Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes.

Speaking of The Irish Village – this weekend is set to be a good one there, with HopFest and its giant sawdust-filled tent the place to be.

Running from 12pm-midnight from August 27-29, the festival will see The Maplejacks, as well as Carmen and the Black T’s and DJ Marky Mark taking to the stage.

Entrance is free, but you’ll have to purchase a minimum number of drink vouchers upon arrival.
