It’s telling that, in order to recreate the genius of just one man, producers of Michael Jackson The Immortal have had to enlist the talents of 49 performers. The world-famous Cirque du Soleil troupe is behind the spectacular concert that comes to Dubai in December and has the unenviable task of trying to capture MJ’s magic. More than four years after his death, Jackson’s absence is still felt, but his legacy remains intact.

Here’s how some of showbusiness’ best remember the King of Pop.

Christina Aguilera “We all had moments in time where we wanted to dance like Michael and were infatuated and in awe of his talent.”

Justin Bieber “I consider Michael Jackson the best. If I could be at his level… But I’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Kanye West “I would not be Kanye West if it wasn’t for Michael Jackson.”

Jennifer Lopez “Anybody who is an entertainer looks up to him because he did it at such a high level.”

Beyoncé “I’m so happy I got to tell him on numerous occasions how much he impacted my life. Honestly, I would not have been anything without Michael Jackson. He taught me so much.”

Jason Derulo“Michael Jackson was my biggest influence. He’s the sole reason why I started singing and dancing in the first place. His legacy will live forever.”

Nelly “He is a presence that will always be there.”

Usher “He broke barriers. With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled. Michael Jackson will never be forgotten. I’ll be a fan for life. You can’t say you were an artist and were not influenced by Michael.”

Florence Welch “He was this iconic figure and you think he’s going to be around forever.”

Justin Timberlake “Growing up in Tennessee, I never really understood the phenomenon that was Michael Jackson or the pandemonium that followed him around. I just heard certain songs that I loved as a kid. And it just so happens that 99.79 per cent of his songs are perfect. They’re perfect songs. The other whatever percentage are works of art as well. Michael Jackson is the best.”
