UMAI

What? Asian tapas supper.

The food? This tapas brunch takes you on a tour of Asia, with delicacies from Japan, Korea and China. Umai doesn’t settle for the usual suspects, however, instead offering diners an array of little plates, which vary from traditionally Korean street food to more decadent bites of foie gras with teriyaki sauce.

Entertainment? We were treated to a cuppa with a difference thanks to tea master Chrystal, who performed an impressive tea ritual that had our chopsticks hanging in mid-air.

Timing? Every Thursday from 7.30pm to 11pm.

Price? Dhs320 including soft drinks, with alcohol available to order from the lobby bar.

LA BRASSERIE

What? Grape escape.

The food? Formerly Rostang, La Brasserie sticks to its French roots with its culinary offerings. Diners choose between six main courses, as well as delving into a seafood and oyster bar, fresh salads, artisan breads, French cheeses and a selection of decadent desserts, all paired with some great wines. Mai oui.

Entertainment? Music, but not live.

Timing? 6.30pm to 10.30pm on Thursdays.

Price? Dhs355 per person including house beverages, or Dhs245 for food only.

LE MERIDIEN VILLAGE

What? Sizzling themed evenings.

The food? This new evening brunch dips into different cuisines throughout the week. A South American barbeque gets things underway on Saturday, followed by surf and turf on Sunday, Asian on Monday, market night on Tuesday, roast night on Wednesday, barbecue on Thursday, with Latino night bringing the week to a close on a Friday.

Entertainment? Dancing is encouraged after dining. with the restaurant’s resident Flames Band providing the beats.

Timing? 8pm to 11pm, every night.

Price? Dhs259 with premium beverages, Dhs219 with regular beverages, Dhs159, children six to 12 years.

What? Dupper.

The food? A combination of dinner and supper, ‘dupper’ serves up everything from Indian tandoori churrascaria (an Indian take on the Brazilian-style meat skewers) to dai pai dong – Chinese comfort food sizzling straight from the wok. Big kids can fill up goody bag at the restaurant’s tuck shop on departure. And did we mention there’s a margarita machine?

Entertainment? There’s a live DJ, and even some bongo playing, to ensure a suitably upbeat tempo.

Timing? 8pm to 11pm on Thursdays.

Price? Dhs350 for unlimited dining, cocktails, beer and wine, Dhs250 for soft drinks.

MISTRAL

What? Surf and turf night brunch.

The food? As it name suggests, seafood and meat abound. Load up your plate with all manner of fresh fish (prawns, squid, salmon, mussels, crab) and cuts of meat (steak, lamb chops, skewers) from the ‘market stalls’, then have them cooked to your liking.

Entertainment? On Thursday a live singer serenades the crowd, while on Friday, there’s a two-piece band to tap your feet to.

Timing? A very generous four hours, from 6.30pm to 11.30pm, every Thursday and Friday.

Price? Dhs249 inclusive of unlimited food, sparkling and house beverages, Dhs190 for soft beverages.
