Experts claim the sushi is “better than Zuma”, but does the rebranded DIFC restaurant deliver the goods?

If we were art critics looking at Sushi Art, the recently re-launched restaurant in DIFC, we’d take a step back, tilt our heads and declare it a masterpiece. We’re not the only ones. One sushi expert we know says the sushi here is “better than Zuma”, the high-class place around the corner. We ate enough sushi to keep a pod of dolphins happy. And there was not one missed step.

We started with salmon tataki, which didn’t even melt in the mouth – it was more like it evaporated. The sea bream tartare with mango and avocado was excellent and is a great option for carbophobes who like to avoid rice.

Other highlights were the dynamite roll of salmon, spicy sauce and cucumber; a scallop flavoured with miso, wrapped in cucumber and the prettiest of them all: a seared salmon tulip with a potato chip that looked like a purple cowboy hat.

The décor is lovely (very cool 1960s tweed chairs and great lighting) and would make an evening trip so worth it. As an art critic wearing a cravat might trumpet: it’s a triumph.
