From cool and casual to ultra-romantic…

If you’re planning a date night, or need a way to drop hints to your significant other that you deserve a night off, then we’re here to help. Whether it’s cool and casual or one of the city’s most romantic alfresco spots, be sure to impress your date with one of these brilliant date night bars in Dubai.

Siddharta Lounge

As pretty as this bar is inside, it’s even better out on the terrace, where you’ll find a glam crowd mingling around the pool or lounging on leather cushions. The vibe is chilled in the week, with a more lively vibe with dancing and DJs until the early hours on the weekends.Pick a cosy spot looking out to the Marina, and settle in for an upscale, glamorous evening.

Grosvenor House, Dubai Marina, Sat to Wed 6pm to 12am, Thur and Fri 6pm to 2am. Tel: (04) 317 6000.

Jetty Lounge

Jetty Lounge is arguably one of Dubai’s most famous date-night spots. Perched on the waterfront, you’ve got the option to sit with your toes in the sand at one of the tables that gaze out to the water, or on the elevated terrace. It’s got a chilled vibe, though the setting makes it an uber-romantic location that’s perfect for sunset. For ultimate wow-factor, take a speedboat from the jetty to 101 for dinner after.

One&Only Royal Mirage, Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina, daily 2pm to 2am. Tel: (04) 399 9999.

The London Project

A relative newcomer to this list, The London Project is well worth a mention. Being at The London Project feels like you’re hanging out in a greenhouse that’s been converted into a living room. Think leafy foliage draping over racing green velvet booths, colour pops of copper, exposed brick and London-inspired murals adorning the walls. It’s got that casual-cool London feel, plus you’ll get bonus points for taking your date somewhere they’ve likely not been before.

The London Project, Bluewaters Island, off JBR, daily 9am to midnight. Tel: (04) 5808570.

Arguably the best new sunset spot in the city, SoBe is open from 4pm daily, it’s a relaxed and stunning terrace, overlooking breathtaking views of the ocean. By night, it transforms into a funky, neon lit hangout quite unlike anything you’ve experienced before. What’s more, they have a sunset ritual to take you through to evening and a two-for-one happy hour from 4pm to 7pm.

Mercury Lounge

The jewel atop of the Four Seasons, Mercury Lounge is a glamorous Dubai rooftop bar with one-of-a-kind views: overlooking the Dubai skyline and the Burj Khalifa on one side, and the Arabian Gulf on the other. During the week it’s relatively relaxed, but it’s a different story at the weekend.

The Rooftop at folly

folly is one of our favourite spots in the Madinat thanks to its now famous folly pops (why didn’t we think to dip ice lollies in prosecco before?) and picturesque views of the waterways. The rooftop at folly is about as romantic as it gets, especially at sunset as you watch the sun sink into the water.

The Burj Khalifa serves as the impressive backdrop to this urban rooftop bar. While it may be home to a lively party brunch on a Friday, go through the week and expect a mix of chilled house beats and acoustic sets. Tables are intimate and mostly designed for two, and there’s high level bar stools or low level lounge areas to pick from.

David Myers, also known as the Gypsy Chef, opened two restaurants in Business Bay last year, but what you probably didn’t know, is you’ll also find a speakeasy-style bar above one of his venues. Poppy is tucked away above his Italian restaurant, Basta!, and has had its menu masterminded by Sam Ross, the master mixologist behind New York’s award-winning Milk & Honey. It’s a cosy bar with a unique cocktail menu, perfect for an intimate evening drinking top cocktails.

But it more than merits its spot, thanks to it’s stunning, sky-high Downtown views and cosy tables that make for an intimate evening. You’ll want to book ahead to make sure you can reserve one of the window tables, and you can watch the half-hourly fountain shows from 63 storeys high.
