It’ll be a while before our next long weekend…

After a long weekend following the shift of working days from Sunday to Thursday to Monday to Friday, we’re already wondering when the next one will be.

So, when is the next UAE public holiday?

Under the direction of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE Cabinet announced the public holidays for 2021 and 2022 back in 2020, which shows the next public holiday after New Year’s Day to be Eid al Fitr.

The end of Ramadan is marked by a multi-day celebration in the UAE, including a holiday for the public and private sectors. In 2022, it is expected to fall from Monday May 2, and the Eid holidays will be from Ramadan 29 until Shawwal 3, based on the Islamic calendar.

Following this, Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha will be the next long breaks. Arafat day is expected to fall on July 8 and Eid Al Adha will likely fall on July 9 in 2022. As these dates are subject to the moon sighting, there is room to move here, but we should have July 8 to 13 off work.

Islamic New Year is another one listed in the calendar, but in 2022 this is expected to fall on July 30, which is a Saturday.

October 8, 2022 is listed as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but again, this also falls on a Saturday.

Finally this year we have commemoration day and National Day, which fall on December 1 and 2 respectively. These dates fall on a Thursday and Friday, so those with Saturdays and Sundays off will enjoy a four-day weekend.
