Go see Phantom Limb – LAST CHANCE

Phantom-Limb

Syrian-born American sculptor Diana Al-Hadid is big news in the art world – and this weekend is your last chance to see her work on Saadiyat Island. Phantom Limb is an exhibition of pieces inspired by the idea that people who have lost a limb still feel the sensation of it being there. The main Phantom Limb installation is surrounded by two more inset into the walls, called Sleepwalker and Still Life, that draw influences from 4th Century BC, neo-Attic Roman bas-relief Gravida (meaning the woman who walks). A bas-relief is an imprint on a stone, similar to what you’d find on a coin.

 Say hello to a mammoth

Mammoth

It’s been a while since woolly mammoths ruled the Earth (they were identified as an extinct species back in 1796), but that’s not to say you can’t get up close and personal with one right here in our fair city – in fossil form. The four-metre-high and one-tonne male mammoth’s remains, uncovered in western Siberia and believed to date back 15,000 years, are now on permanent display at Marina Mall.

Marina Mall, Corniche Road, Abu Dhabi, Sat to Wed 10am to 10pm, Thur and Fri 10am to midnight, free. Tel: (02) 6818300. marinamall.ae
