Driving too close behind other motorists can result in hefty fines…

Abu Dhabi police have taken to social media to reinforce to motorists the dangers of failing to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Anyone found tailgating in the capital will be subject to a Dhs400 fine and four black points, notes a statement written in Arabic posted to the official Abu Dhabi police Instagram account.

In the same post, it was revealed that 13 per cent of traffic accidents in the first quarter of 2018 occured because of motorists driving too close to another vehicle, often resulting in injuries and sometimes even death.

The Abu Dhabi police have been carrying out a road safety awareness campaign in June, taking to social media to ask the public to give their opinion on what causes accidents and what can be done to make the UAE’s roads safer.
