Getting to the art of the matter is important, you know?

With a brand new month comes brand new art exhibitions to check out, and culture vultures, we’ve rounded up four key exhibitions to keep you busy this December.

1. Discover Saudi Arabia

The cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia is celebrated in this exhibition of archaeological artefacts titled Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia.  Organised by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), it is a travelling exhibition that has already been to 13 international museums in Europe, the United States and Asia.

2. 100 Best Arabic Posters 

The winners of a biennial graphic competition for poster design go on display in one of the city’s most vibrant spaces. The democratic nature of poster language is deeply embedded in the culture of the Arab world, beyond just its visuals, and this exhibition will travel from Abu Dhabi across the region.

3. Building Blocks of a Society

Exploring the visible and invisible threads that form a society and help to shape its communities, this exhibition brings together works by a diverse selection of local and international artists. Highlights include wonderful representations of the UAE’s mosques by expat-artist Jessica Watson-Thorpe, architectural charcoal drawings by new Abu Dhabi resident Miriam Innes, and Shamma Al Amri’s pinhole photography, depicting the history of
the UAE.

4. Rational vs Intuitive


Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak Republic, this exhibition brings together Slovak artists based in the UAE and abroad. Paintings, sculpture and photography come together to celebrate the nation.
