Here’s what you need to know.

The capital is set to host the first ever Abu Dhabi Marathon this weekend. And whether you’re lacing up your trainers or warming up your vocal chords as part of the cheering crowd, it’s going to be a huge event for the emirate.

But if you’re not getting involved, there are a number of road closures along the 42-kilometre course that you should know about. These will take effect from midnight until 2pm Friday.

The course is based around the Abu Dhabi Corniche, which will be closed for the occasion. The closures will stretch all the way to Marina Mall.

There will also be some partial road closures in place, including on the road leading to Qasr Al Hosn (which opens to the public on Friday).

18th Street between the Adnoc Headquarters and Hilton Hotel will also be closed from Thursday to Friday.

A race village has been set up at Bainunah Park where participants and spectators can find live entertainment, food trucks and other facilities.

If you’re running, good luck (and good on you!) and if you’re cheering, shout loud, as your encouragement will be of great help…
