Ride scooters in Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Dana, Reem Island and Maryah Island…

Hot on the (w)heels of the announcement that you can now legally rent e-scooters in Abu Dhabi, European micro-mobility company, Circ, have confirmed the launch of their e-scooter app service in the UAE capital.

The easy-to-use app allows users to find, ‘unlock’ and ride any nearby Circ scooters with a quick swipe of their smartphone. The fleet of e-scooters will be available to use 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year round.

It’s Dhs3 to unlock an electronic scooter and Dhs1 per minute that it’s ridden. They’re kicking things off with some new promotions too, where new users can get their first ride for free using the promo code wecirc and if you take two rides per week, you’ll get a third ride free the next week.

How it works

To find your scooter, just need to download the Circ app which will tell you where the nearest Circ scooters are. With a quick scan of the scooter’s QR code using your smartphone, electronic payment will be processed and you can scoot away.

Once you’re done, simply park your rented scooter within one of the pre-defined virtual service areas that are indicated on the map and off you go. There’s no need to park them in a dock or bay either as the new models use dockless technology.

There’ll also be some handy navigational tips, safety instructions and guidelines for correct usage.

Service areas currently covered by Circ include Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Dana, Reem Island and Maryah Island, however regional managers are currently in talks to extend the service further in the capital.

Making it legal

It was big news in the UAE on Wednesday July 31 when Abu Dhabi’s governing body for transport, Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), announced that residents and visitors can now legally rent e-scooters in the capital.

Naturally, the big question on everyone’s lips is ‘could Dubai be next?’ Well, Circ have hinted that “further expansion across the UAE and GCC is in the pipeline for the coming months” so watch this space…
