Motorists are being warned of major closures from the evening of Monday December 1 as Dubai gears up for its 43rd National Day celebrations.

In a statement released by Dubai World Trade Centre, those hoping to make it home after work and school should avoid vast swathes of the emirate around Burj Al Arab, where a dazzling fireworks display is expected to take place.

“Jumeirah Road, Al Sufouh Road, Umm Suqeim Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl Road and Al Manara Road may be affected by heavy traffic,” it said. “Please avoid these roads and use alternative routes.”

A special stage has been erected opposite Burj Al Arab and Souk Madinat Jumeirah, from which special guests will enjoy front row seats to the display, as well as other live entertainment. The stage show kicks off at 6pm. Among the ‘alternative routes’ are Emirates Rod and Al Khail Road.

Further disruption is expected on National Day itself, especially around The Beach at JBR, where live entertainment and fireworks will run throughout the evening, from 5pm. At City Walk, festivities start at 2pm on the day as a five-day spectacular comes to an end featuring dancers, jugglers, face painting and more.

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, the Corniche will be shut and dedicated completely to celebrations and parade from 5pm on Tuesday.

“All vehicles heading from inside the city towards the breakwater area via the Corniche will have to use the roundabout near the fruits and vegetables market at Mina Zayed area,” a statement said. “While all vehicles leaving the breakwater area will have to use the road around Marina Mall and head towards the Bateen area.”
