You know that island being built off the coast of Deira? Here’s what it will turn into in a few years…

We do big malls very well in Dubai. Ibn Battuta’s getting bigger, there’s a fancy new mall coming to The Palm and don’t forget about Mall of the World.

But the biggest mall of them all will be a new one on Deira Islands (yes, another set of manmade islands, pictured above). The mall will have 4.5 million square feet of gross leasable area, while Dubai Mall has 3.77 million square feet. Gross leasable area basically means any space that can be rented out to shops, restaurants etc, so not open spaces or atriums etc.

Here’s what the mall, which is due to open by 2020, will look like:

The mall complex will be made up of a main building, a boulevard and 16 surrounding towers. We don’t know much more than that right now, but we’ll let you know when we do.

The Deira Islands project that will be home to the mall will be right off of the coast of Deira:

It will also be home to The Night Souk, which is currently under construction. This will be a 1.5 km long stretch along the water that runs directly opposite the Dubai mainland. The souk will have 5,300 shops, cafes and shops. Also, as the name suggests, it will only be open at night. It will be open in 2018.

That’s all for now, but we’ll keep you updated when we find out more about Old Dubai’s upcoming manmade islands.
