A new run is coming to the city in just over a week’s time – and this one will see able-bodied people and those with special needs moving in unison. Plus, we’ve got tickets to give away…

A brand new, one-of-a-kind running event is coming to the UAE in two Fridays time.

The Unity Run, which takes place on November 25, is a 3km walk and 7km run made to be an inclusive event that able-bodied people and those with special needs can take part in side by side. Taking place along the picturesque corniche of Al Mamzar Beach (pictured above), the race encourages participation from everyone, from those in wheelchairs to the mobility and visually impaired, as well as blind participants.

The great news is that we have five sets of five tickets to give away – so that’s 25 tickets in total. With tickets at Dhs165 that means each winner will walk away with a prize worth Dhs825. Scroll down to enter.

Fancy getting involved in another way? The organisers are welcoming volunteers to take part as buddies, pairing able bodied participants with those with special needs who might not otherwise be able to take part. Check out the website for more details on getting involved in that.

It’s an un-timed event, and according to Ruth Dickinson, managing partner of FittGROUP Middle East, it’s about more than how fast you go.

“It’s about joy and celebrating unity in the United Arab Emirates. It isn’t just for people with disabilities – it includes them. And that’s what it’s all about.” she said.

Entry costs Dhs165 (Dhs100 for ages 7 to 17) and can be booked at platinumlist.net, but those with special needs can participate free of charge. All funds raised from the event will go to the Al Noor Training Centre for People with Disabilities.

Dubai has pledged that it aims to be a city that is easily accessible and traversable for disabled people by 2020. Plus, this year’s event is timed to take place around the same time as National Day (which is on December 2) and also coincides with the Al Noor Training Centre’s 35th anniversary.

To win passes simply enter by 9am on Thursday November 17…
