Fans of proper English grub rejoice…

The World Retail Congress – currently underway at Madinat Jumeirah – wraps up this afternoon after three days of talks and (we imagine) shopping.

But not before it leaves us with this tasty morsel of news: UK retailing giant Marks and Spencer will be opening its first stand-alone food store in the Middle East right here in Dubai.

While the city already has its fair share of M&S department stores (there are seven located at various malls throughout Dubai), this will mark the first time one will be solely dedicated to bringing the large selection of the chain’s signature foodstuff to the region.

Speaking to the Business Breakfast radio show on Dubai Eye, Executive Director of Marks and Spencer Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne noted “Marks and Spencer will be opening their first ever stand-alone food store in the Dubai Marina in a few weeks. It will be the first in the region and will have a much bigger food catalog.”

The food-only store will look to carry around 2000 items and be located in Dubai Marina when it opens its doors in July of this year.
