Here are the new flicks you’ll be able to go see from today…

Our top pick of the movies out in cinemas this week is Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, the latest installment in Disney’s swashbuckling franchise.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge

The latest outing for Captain Jack Sparrow and friends is the fifth in the franchise (can you believe it?), released 14 years after Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which was far more fun than any movie based on a theme park ride should be. The latest big budget adventure has Cap’n Jack on the run from a ghostly villain played by a menacing Javier Bardem, and throws in cameos from Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and (weirdly) Paul McCartney.

Gifted

Chris Evans trades in his Captain America shield to star in this tearjerker as Frank, a man raising his seven-year-old niece Mary (Mckenna Grace). When Mary starts school, she’s revealed to be a child math prodigy and what follows is a heart-wrenching custody battle between Frank, who wants her to have a normal childhood, and his estranged mother (play by Sherlock’s Lindsay Duncan), who wants Mary to attend a school for the gifted. Jenny Slate and Octavia Spencer round off an all-star cast.

 A Man Called Ove (Swedish)

Brought to Dubai as part of the Dubai International Film Festival’s DIFF365 initiative, this charming Swedish hit was the highest grossing foreign language of 2016. Based on a bestselling novel, it’s the story of a grumpy old man called Ove, and his attempts to find his place in his neighbourhood and in the world, after losing his job of 40 years. This one is only available at Mall of the Emirates VOX Cinemas.
