The world’s largest single-site Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project was officially launched in Dubai as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

Costing a cool Dhs4.2 billion, the project was unveiled by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and will include the world’s tallest solar tower reaching 260 metres above sea level.

It is expected to generate 700 megawatts of energy that will be used to supplement Dubai’s power grid.

The CSP is actually the fourth stage in the massive Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park which completed its photovoltaic first and second phases in 2013 and 2017 respectively, with a photovoltaic third phase due to be operational by 2020.

This fourth phase has yet to be given an official launch date, but shows that things are well on track to hit Dubai’s goal of increasing the share of clean energy in the city’s total power output to 75 per cent by 2050.

“We have made steady progress in realising the goals of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 that was launched as part of our objective to transform Dubai into a global clean energy and green economy hub.” said Sheikh Mohammed in an official statement announcing the project.
