Dubai’s residents have accepted the challenge and spent the weekend getting fit..

The Dubai Fitness Challenge is officially underway and, if social media is anything to go by, Dubai’s residents have accepted the challenge with gusto.

The month-long initiative from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum kicked off on Friday 20 October, asking that people commit to 30 minutes of exercise daily for 30 days – something that shouldn’t be too difficult owing to the fact that there are over 1,500 free workout classes popping up all over the city offering no excuse for everyone to not get involved.

How can you get involved? Well, now it’s even easier thanks to a dedicated smartphone app that is designed to help log your month of fitness. Available for both Android and iOS, it will point you in the direction of where you can take part in free public workouts, as well as let you set goals and track your progress.

The response since the launch on Friday has been overwhelming, here are how some Dubai residents spent their first fit weekend:

Sheikh Hamdan was present at Safa Park for the opening weekend carnival to take part and provide encouragement to attendees

The RTA organised a Fun Run around the Dubai Water Canal

It also coincided with this year’s Desert Warrior Challenge, which saw teams of uber-fit residents tackle a 10km obstacle course

And while some people preferred to take a lower-impact route for their 30 minutes of exercise, every little bit still counts

Even the schools got involved this morning with hundreds of students taking part

Whether it’s a brisk walk after work, or an early morning swim, there’s still plenty of time to get involved – so what are you waiting for?
