Organisers are promising a ‘never before seen spectacle’ this December 31…

The New Year’s Eve fireworks that launch from Dubai’s Burj Khalifa are a global spectacle, watched worldwide as the clock strikes midnight in Dubai.

But we’ve just found out that the Burj Khalifa New Year’s Eve show will be completely different this year – organisers are calling it a ‘never before seen spectacle’ that uses Downtown’s buildings as a canvas.

So while there will still be a show, it’s sounding like it will be more about lights and lasers than fireworks come midnight on New Year’s Eve. The marketing material for the event doesn’t mention fireworks at all and we have it on good authority that there won’t be any actual fireworks: although, we wouldn’t worry, as it’s Downtown Dubai on New Year’s Eve, we’re sure it’s going to be amazing.

Few details have been released (it’s being touted as a surprise) but the show is called Light Up 2018′, and the choreographed show will be displayed across the canvas of Downtown Dubai’s famous buildings. It is also expected to incorporate water and music performances from the Dubai Fountain.

As soon as more details are released, we’ll be sure to let you know…

For those wishing to catch the brand new celebrations, special viewing platforms will be set up across Burj Park and Downtown. It will also be beamed onto big screens across Downtown Dubai.

As always, the public are encouraged to arrive early by 6pm and to use public transport with Dubai Metro offering extended operating hours.
