A new restaurant opens its doors, 4th July celebrations kick off, and it’s another big week of football…

Welcome to a brand new week in Dubai, and with the World Cup firmly underway, all eyes are on the game. But if you’re taking a break from the World Cup fever, or (whisper it) just not really a football fan, there’s new restaurants, silent discos and swing acts to keep you busy.

Here’s eight things to do in Dubai this week.

Sunday July 1

1. Tuck into a sky high business lunch

If you’re looking for an elevated experience (literally) this lunchtime, why not check out the new business lunch offering at At.mosphere, the world’s tallest restaurant. The two or three course menu is available daily from 12.30pm until 3pm, and includes dishes such as corn-fed yellow chicken with mash potato and broccoli and sea bass a’la plancha with crudité, green lentil and grenobloise sauce.

Monday July 2

2. Check out an art exhibiton

The popular Latin American restaurant Coya is now showcasing around 60 of Spanish artist Salvador Dali’s iconic pieces in the ‘World of Dali’ exhibition. Born in Catalonia, Spain in 1904, Dali best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, is a defining piece of surrealist art. While this particular masterpiece won’t be on show, visitors will be able to see other iconic works by the artist including Surrealist Flower Girl and Space Elephant.

3. Try your hand at chocolate making

For an alternative ladies’ day or night activity, Boutique Le Chocolat is offering a chocolate making masterclass for groups of ladies at their City Walk boutique. Priced at Dhs95, the class don’t need to be booked in advanced, and you’ll be able to learn about the chocolate making process, as well as decorating your own designer chocolate pieces.

Tuesday July 3

4. Check out a sleek new steakhouse

STK Downtown is finally opening its doors this Tuesday July 3. With a 240-seat capacity indoors, and a 100-seat garden terrace overlooking the iconic Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain, there’s sure to be plenty of Instagram opportunities. STK Downtown will feature STK’s classic menu, so expect the likes of an oyster bar, seafood platters and those signature made-to-order steaks alongside the brand’s signature upscale New-York décor.

5. Party at the launch of a silent disco ladies’ night

Throwing it back to your student days, popular Media City hotspot Mr Miyagi’s is combining its Hello Kitty ladies’ night with a retro silent disco, and it’s kicking off next Tuesday July 3. Ladies can take advantage of three dishes and three drinks for Dhs99 in the restaurant, before making their way to the dancefloor next door for the silent disco from 11pm, where there’s a further three free drinks on offer.

6. Catch the football action from a super-sized fan zone

The biggest football event on the planet is in full swing, and on Tuesday, England are set to take on Columbia. There’s stacks of Dubai venues showing every minute of the Fifa World Cup 2018 action, but our pick this week is Barasti. The stalwart venue has transformed into a football super fan zone, and there’s no atmosphere like it.

Wednesday July 4

7. See a swing group at Dubai Opera

Three-piece swing artists The Definitive Rat Pack are to putting on two shows this July. The world’s finest interpreters of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr will be hitting the Dubai Opera stage to perform some of the most popular hits from the swing decade. Expect to swing along to iconic tracks including I’ve Got You Under My SkinFly Me to the MoonSwayAin’t That a Kick in the HeadMack the KnifeMy WayNew York, New York and many more classics.

8. Celebrate 4th of July

To celebrate American Independence Day on Wednesday July 4, Black Tap will be rolling out a limited edition freakshake. Available from July 3 to 8 and priced at Dhs69, it’s a combination of vanilla ice-cream, red, white and blue sprinkles and whipped cream that’s topped with a red, white and blue cake slice, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry.
