The cars will run on dedicated routes in Dubai Silicon Oasis…
As part of their participation in GITEX technology week, the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) are testing self-driving taxis this week.
From Sunday October 14, the driverless taxis will be tested on dedicated routes around Dubai Silicon Oasis. The cars are fitted with cameras and sensors that fully view traffic and road conditions, control the vehicle and make sure to avoid collisions.
But the self-driving taxis are not the only high-tec feature that the RTA has revealed. The authority announced that they also plan to unveil a 3D printing system which manufactures spare parts for Dubai Metro and robot cleaners which will service Dubai Metro stations.
An AI-based automated chat system that responds to customer inquiries will also be revealed at the exhibit.
The launch of these new initiatives and smart services are in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world.
Dubai aims for 25 per cent of transport journeys in the city to be conducted by autonomous means by 2030.
