It’s the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic…

A nine-year-old boy has become the one-billionth passenger to arrive at Dubai International Airport.

Arjun, who was traveling with his brother and parents, arrived in Dubai on EK220, a 14-hour flight from Orlando, Florida on Thursday December 20.

The family were met to huge celebrations, and have been told they will “be treated to an incredible 4-day Dubai experience”, according to a Tweet by Dubai Airports.

Taking to Twitter, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai praised the airport and its achievement. “Dubai International Airport received its one billionth passenger today, marking a new phase in its journey towards a bright future. One billion passengers have made DXB a part of their personal story and helped shape Dubai into a global hub,” the Dubai ruler tweeted.

“I am proud and humbled by this achievement and thank the DXB team, led by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. We are committed to remaining the first choice in transporting people across borders, helping them fulfill dreams, meet loved ones, and discover the world’s wonders,” added Sheikh Mohammed.

It’s an impressive feat for the airport, which opened 58 years ago in 1960. When it opened, it was capable of handling aircrafts the size of a DC-3, which could roughly carry between 20 to 30 passengers.
