This one is for the crab fanatics, the lobster lovers, the clam fans, the oyster… you get the idea – it’s a seafood brunch…

Fairmont the Palm is a destination for everyone. The term culinary journey is one often overused but here it fits. With 10 dining outlets and cuisines ranging from Indian to Brazilian to Japanese, the hotel really does cater to all tastes.

Seagrill Bistro is the chic seafood restaurant overlooking the resort’s private beachfront and Dubai Marina in the distance. The restaurant is vibrant, with tall floor to ceiling windows, white stencilled walls clashed with mock-bamboo pillars, artistic chandelier and bright soft furnishings.

If you can handle the heat, pick a table outside. That where the DJ is stationed and the majority of the atmosphere is. The terrace is shaded, with plenty of outdoor tables for couples and groups.

The brunch is table service and you receive every dish on the menu, with the option to reorder if you need to. The first dish to arrive is a seafood platter, providing two levels of fresh mussels, oysters, salmon sashimi, a whole crab and a serving of smoking dry ice to tick the Instagram box right from the get-go.

If you thought this was the starter, you’d be wrong. We’re next presented with not one, not two, but six additional starters ranging from beef tartare to foie gras crumble, burrata cheese and crab cakes. The crab cakes are crunchy with a soft centre but a little overpowering with crab. A favourite would be the burrata, which is well complimented by another dish on the list, beetroot salad.

Once you’ve feasted your way through all of those (and any you might wish to re-order); there are five mains coming your way. There’s a delicious Mediterranean bouillabaisse with fresh fish, authentic Spanish flavours and slices of grilled baguette. The sea bass fillet is tasty and the flakes of fish melt in your mouth with gooey roasted peppers and onions.

By this point, you might be ready to have a siesta and call it a day, but out comes the largest chocolate cake in existence, served on a metre-long wooden board. One slice alone is enough to serve our group, yet there’s also a basked Alaska, whole apple tarte tatin and fresh fruit skewers to get through. We take a bite of the moist decadent chocolate cake, topped with caramel icing and it’s perfect. If only we had space for more. The apple pie is sharp and refreshing, with fresh pastry and that just-out-of-the-oven warmth.

To help you wash down this feast is a selection of classic cocktails. Pimms, sangria, mimosa and mojito are all on the list, as well and wine, beer and spirits. There’s also a delightful selection of home-made ice teas. Chamomile passion and the hibiscus floral are a refreshing and fruity alternative to the liquor-based drinks.

The brunch is definitely worth a try, particularly as you can make a day of it by adding hotel pool and beach access at no extra charge. Perhaps just don’t eat for a day (or two) beforehand…
