Dubai welcomes some brilliant shows, concerts and events each month and as more and more get announced, it’s hard to keep up with all the city’s happenings. Which is why we’ve rounded them up for you, in one handy guide.
So, whether you’re looking for ballet or big gigs, theatre or comedy, we’ve rounded up 12 unmissable shows you need to see in Dubai this year.
April 9 to 18: Alice in Wonderland at the QE2
This April the QE2 is set to welcome a new set of treasured guests – this time in the form of the White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat as a West End performance of Alice in Wonderland comes to the QE2. The family-friendly show will run at Theatre by QE2 from Tuesday April 9 until Thursday April 18, with tickets on sale from February 11, priced from Dhs150 for adults and Dhs120 for children. Alice in Wonderland is a treasured tale which follows a young girl called Alice, who follows a smartly dressed rabbit into wonderland. The show will be interpreted for the QE2 stage, seeing Alice navigate her way through different sized doors onto the QE2.

April 11: Al Murray at Dubai Opera
Al Murray will take to the stage in Dubai tomorrow, Thursday April 11. Commonly known as ‘The Pub Landlord’, Murray has been performing sellout shows around the globe for more than two decades. Murray’s huge stand-up shows have seen him become one of the UK’s best-loved funnymen, thanks to his belly-laugh comedy style. But be warned, those wishing to get front row seats, the stand up comedian is famed for picking on audience members. Tickets are priced at Dhs150 inclusive of one drink.

April 18 to 27: Gatsby: The Immersive Experience at QE2
‘Gatsby: The Immersive Experience’ will run from April 18 to April 27 and will take over three level of the legendary QE2 liner. Rather than just being a theatre show, guests can expect to bump into ‘characters around every corner’, with comfortable shoes advised for walking – and dancing – your way right back to the 1920s. No two events will be the same, meaning each guest will enjoy a totally different experience and rather than being a spectator, will be fully involved in the show.

April 25 and 26: Michael McIntyre
Famous funnyman Michael McIntyre is set to make his return to Dubai at the end of April. McIntyre first rose to fame as a TV panel show star on Mock The Week before going on to get his own show on the BBC has since gone on to become one of the world’s most successful stand-up comedians. The popular British funnyman was last in Dubai in 2015, when he brought his ‘Happy & Glorious’ tour to the region. This time around, the two shows are part of Michael’s Big World Tour, which will also see the popular comedian perform across Europe, USA, Africa, Australia & New Zealand.

April 26: Andrea Bocelli
Multi award-winning tenor Andrea Bocelli is set to return to Abu Dhabi for a one-night only performance on Friday April 26. The world famous classical artist will take to the stage at Yas Island’s du Arena, with tickets priced from Dhs395 for regular tickets, up to Dhs1,295 for VVIP. 60-year old Bocelli will perform an array of his best-loved hits, as well as some new material when he returns to the capital.

April 26: James Arthur at Zero Gravity
James Arthur will perform at Zero Gravity on April 26th. British born James won The X Factor in 2012, before seeing his debut single Impossible debut at number one and go on to sell over 1.4 million copies in the UK, making it the most successful winner’s single in the show’s history. Early Bird tickets go on sale from Thursday March 28 from 9am and cost Dhs165. Otherwise regular online tickets are Dhs195, or Dhs225 on the door.

April 26 and 27: Sleeping Beauty at Dubai Opera
Another stunning show has been added to the Dubai Opera line-up as the venue is set to welcome Sleeping Beauty this April. Performed by the The National Ballet of Ukraine, there will be two matinee and two evening performances over April 26 and April 27. For those that aren’t familiar with the iconic story, the narrative follows Princess Aurora, who falls into a deep, enchanted sleep after she pricks her finger on a spindle. Cursed by the wicked fairy, only the kiss from a Prince can wake her.

May 1 to May 3: Majesty by Queen at QE2 Dubai
Whether you’ve been a Freddie Mercury fan forever or the smash hit Bohemian Rapsody renewed your love for the Brit rock band we’ve got a treat for you – Theatre by QE2 is set to host a Queen tribute show this May. The four-piece tribute act will take to the stage as Freddie, Brian, Roger and John take to the stage for a show described as an ‘all-action production’ that recreates ‘the excitement of their legendary stadium spectaculars’. Audiences can expect to be treated to an array of Queen’s superb songs over the two-hour show, from their earlier hits in the 70s including Bohemian Rapsody, Somebody To Love and We Will Rock You to their later top 10 hits such as Another One Bites the Dust, Under Pressure and I Want To Break Free to some of Mercury’s last works in the early 1990s, the show promises to deliver a score of non-stop Queen hits sure to have you on your feet.

June 6: Russell Peters at Coca-Cola Arena
Famous funnyman Russell Peters will be the first star to grace the stage at Dubai Arena this summer. The stand-up comedy superstar will make his return to Dubai on Thursday June 6, making him the first act to grace the stage at the epic new arena at City Walk. The Emmy award-winning comedian is back in Dubai for the third time, promising all-new material as he brings his Deported World Tour to the city. As well as witty observational comedy and the classic audience involvement the comedian has become famous for, guests can expect a laugh-out-loud show later this year.

June 14: Maroon 5 at Coca-Cola Arena
Done Events have confirmed that Grammy award-winning pop-rock group Maroon 5 will return to Dubai for the first time since 2011 this summer. The This Love hit makers will perform at the newly named Coca-Cola Arena – in City Walk for the first time on June 14. The band, lead by lead singer Adam Levine, will head to Dubai off the back of a 60-date world tour which began in South America in March 2018 and concludes in Europe on June 11, 2019. When they return to Dubai later this year, fans can expect to hear a string of their best-loved hits including She Will Be Loved, Moves Like Jagger and Sugar. It’s not the first time the group have performed in Dubai. They were previously here in April 2011, when they headlined a gig at Dubai World Trade Centre.

October 16 to 30: Phantom of the Opera at Dubai Opera
It’s largely regarded as one of the most popular musicals in the world, and this October The Phantom of the Opera is set to make its Dubai debut. Taking to the stage at Dubai Opera in Autumn of 2019, the show will run from Wednesday October 16 until Wednesday October 30. The show, created by Andrew Lloyd Webber, will come to Dubai straight from London, and Dubai Opera will be the only location to host the iconic show in the GCC. Since it premiered as a musical in 1986, The Phantom of the Opera has been seen by 130 million people worldwide and amassed over 70 awards, so we can’t wait to get our hands on tickets to the Dubai show.
