There could even be some flash flooding across parts of the UAE…

Residents across the UAE woke up to another day of turbulent weather this morning, Wednesday April 10, after heavy rain and thunder lashed across the city last night.

And forecasters are warning that the stormy weather is set to continue into the weekend – with scattered rainfall of varying intensities, thunder, lightening and even flash flooding expected.

Through the night, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) reported light to moderate rain over Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, while heavy rain with thunder was seen over Dubai International Airport.

The NCMS issued a weather warning until 6pm today for residents to expect rain and strong winds causing blowing dust and sand reducing visibility to less than 2km at times. Rainfall of different intensities is expected all day.

Dubai Police also Tweeted a warning to drivers across the city, urging drivers to reduce their speed during heavy rain to avoid any hydroplaning.

And sadly, the unstable weather looks set to stay until Saturday. From Tuesday night to Friday, the country will be affected by scattered rainfall that will start from the west coast and extend to internal and Northern areas. The rainfall could also be ‘accompanied with thunder and lightning at times’, according to the NCMS report.

From Friday night to Sunday, upper level low pressure accompanied by a cold air mass will see the conditions intensify, and different intensities of rain is expected ‘over most areas’. Hail, as well as thunder, lightning and even flash flooding may accompany the rain.

We can also expect poor visibility, with fresh to strong winds causing blowing dust and sand.

So, if you’re driving on the roads, be sure to be careful.
