Did you see the storms last night?!

The UAE was lashed by some pretty extreme weather over the weekend, with heavy rain, strong winds and even flash flooding causing disruption across the country.

But on the evening of Saturday April 13, heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the city, with the most dramatic moments in Downtown Dubai – when the Burj Khalifa was struck by lightning.

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Tweeted this video of the moment the world’s tallest building became a lightning rod:

And he wasn’t the only one to capture the striking weather. Many residents also took to social media to share their stormy snaps of the Burj Khalifa.

On Sunday morning, it was another showery start, but an altogether clearer and brighter day. A weather report from the National Centre of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS) forecast that after a few potential rain showers in the morning, cloud amounts will gradually decrease by evening. Dubai residents can expect temperature highs of 28 degrees Celsius and lows of 24.
