It’s official: Amazon has launched in the UAE

Souq.com has officially become Amazon.ae…

Almost two years after tech giant Amazon bought UAE-based Souq.com, the e-commerce platform has officially launched as Amazon.ae.

Promising to still be home to ‘everything you love about Souq, online shoppers will now be able to get their hands on over 30 million products on the site, including access to 5 million products from Amazon US.

For the first time in Amazon history, Arabic language has been introduced to both the website and mobile app.

Customers who visit Souq.com, are met with a message saying that ‘Your souq.com is now Amazon.ae’ before being redirected to the new site. On the landing page, a message from souq.com co-founder Ronaldo Mouchawar, explaining that there have been ‘many milestones for Souq over the past 13 years and today, we have another to share with you. we are proud to announce we are now Amazon.ae’. Mouchawar goes on to say that customers will enjoy the ‘same great prices as on Souq, fast and reliable delivery and a range of payment options’.

 

The message concludes with ‘We look forward to serving you as Amazon.ae. Thank you for being our customer’.

Customers with existing Souq accounts can automatically sign into Amazon.ae with their Souq.com credentials to begin using the new site. Pending Souq orders can also be tracked on the new Amazon site.

Shoppers can search the store’s impressive array of products to buy everything from electronics and gadgets to groceries, fashion and homewares. Then, payment can be made in dirhams either using a credit card or their cash on arrival payment option.

Purchases over Dhs100 will also qualify for free next day delivery, with some areas of Dubai able to take advantage of same-day delivery for a fee.
