Passengers travelling this weekend are urged to check their flight times before heading to the airport…
If you’re catching a flight from Dubai International Airport (DXB) this weekend, be sure to check your flight time before heading to the airport as DXB’s northern runway is set to close for temporary maintenance.
The brief closure of the northern runway comes amidst a 45-day closure of DXB’s southern runway, which is undergoing extensive maintenance.
The northern runway closures will take place from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, May 24, from 4pm to 7pm on Sunday, May 26, and from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, May 27, a statement said.
Passengers travelling this weekend are urged to check their flight times before making their way to the airport, and to check with their respective airlines for any updates.
According to Dubai Airports, the brief closure of the northern runway is for ““necessary maintenance and upgrades as part of the ongoing runway rehabilitation programme”.
“The closures have been carefully planned during the least busy period of the day and in close coordination with airlines and other service partners involved in airport operations, to minimise flight disruptions and keep passenger inconvenience to a minimum,” the statement read.
During the southern runway closure at DXB, flights were expected to increase at DWC by 700 per cent, with an average of 145 passenger flights per day handled by the airport in Jebel Ali.
Overall, the number of flights across the Dubai Airport system has been reduced by 19 per cent with a seat reduction of 20 per cent, according to Gulf Business.
