The coffee chain is doing their bit for World Environment Day…

Global coffee brand, Costa Coffee, is offering all customers a complimentary coffee on Wednesday June 5, when presented with any reusable coffee cup. The promotion is in support of World Environment Day which has taken place annually since 1974.

Customers who bring a reusable cup to Costa Coffee already receive a Dhs2 discount on their coffee, an initiative which has saved 20,000 cups since February 2019.

Shemaine Jones, Head of Marketing at Costa Coffee UAE, commented: “The food and drink industry is really waking up to the threat of plastic on the world’s environment and we as a company are committed to making changes to ensure a more sustainable offering. Whilst we are making a lot of changes, these are still only the first steps in a long-term strategy to overhaul our environmental practices and we look forward to joining together with our customers to reduce global waste.”

In addition to free coffee, Costa Coffee is also collaborating with DXB airport to create an upcycled artwork from recycled plastic straws. Made from 60,000 straws, Last Straw will be placed in the arrivals gate of Terminal 3 from May 31.

The straw installation, designed by award-winning sculpture artist Mariska Nell, aims to capture the attention of travellers and remind them to take greater care of the planet. The artwork will also prevent the recycled materials from finding their fate on a landfill site.

Visit any Costa Coffee UAE store on June 5 for a free coffee.
