With the highly-anticipated Expo 2020 fast approaching, building work has been full steam ahead…

Expo 2020 announced on Tuesday that construction of the three main Expo 2020 pavilions; Opportunity Pavilion, Mobility Pavilion and Sustainability Pavilion has now been completed.

The petal-shaped districts will house the three themed pavilions and will feature 86 low-rise buildings with restaurants and food outlets, retail, leisure and performance areas. They’ll all be connected to Al Wasl Plaza, which is next up for completion.

It’s got a little village feel to it, with pretty water features, trees and plants from the UAE and solar panels to continue the theme of sustainability.

Although the shell and core work has been completed, there’s still a way to go. As well as the country pavilions, construction is under way for the Dubai Exhibition Centre and Expo Village.

Expo 2020 will see more than 170 countries come together to exhibit their feats in every sector from industrial, to scientific, to technological.

Located near the Al Maktoum International Airport, Expo 2020 will run from October 20 2020 to April 2021. Tickets start from Dhs120 for a day pass.

Ahmed Al Khatib, chief development and delivery officer, Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “This is the year of delivery, and the completion of the three thematic districts is a major construction landmark to be celebrated as we prepare to welcome the world in less than 520 days.”
