RTA made the decision due to the popularity of the cabins…

Women and children’s ‘pink cabins’ on Dubai Metro are being relocated to offer increased comfort and privacy for passengers. Over the next two months, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) will relocate its female cabins to one end of the train.

The new cabins will be moved to the end opposite to the gold class, leaving the mixed cabins in the middle of the train. Signage will also be moved to make the new location clear to passengers. RTA plans to have this project complete by August 2019.

Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, Director of Rail Operation at RTA’s Rail Agency said: “In accordance with its vision of ‘Safe and Smooth Transport for All’, RTA looks out for the comfort of Dubai Metro riders, especially women and children. The Rail Agency has kicked off a field campaign to implement this process, which aims to make the Women & Children cabins in harmony with the the new trains cabins designs.”

Men who are found standing in the pink cabins are subject to a fine of Dhs100. The purpose of the women and children cabins is to provide space and comfort for female travellers and RTA has noticed their popularity, especially during summer holidays.

RTA will carry out the project through three phases. The first aims to create awareness through social media and support from Metro employees. The next will be displaying posters and signage to guide passengers to the correct cabins, followed by the final completion phase.
