The runway closed for 45 days for maintenance work…

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has confirmed the Southern runway has now reopened after 45 days of maintenance work. The closure saw many flights redirected to Dubai World Central (DWC) airport but Dubai Airports has announced that it only saw a 32 per cent reduction in the number of available seats.

Airlines who experienced changes in their operating schedule, including Fly Dubai and Emirates have said that their normal operation has resumed. In some cases, even more flights have been added for example, Emirates has launched its shortest superjumbo flight destination – Muscat.

In order to ensure the runway closure had a smooth transition, Emirates put a primary focus on its communication with customers, advising everyone to check their flights before travel.

For a short period of time, the northern runway also experienced a closure so that urgent maintenance work could be carried out. Passengers travelling from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, May 24, from 4pm to 7pm on Sunday, May 26, and from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, May 27 were urged to check their flight details.

Over the Eid break, Emirates released a warning to passengers travelling from May 31 onwards to arrive at the airport three hours ahead of their flight. The airline expects a lot of traffic congestion around Terminal 3, along with road works around main airport highways and roads causing further potential delays. Peak travel is expected to continue until Wednesday June 5.
