While the pool itself might not be anything special at Playa Nomade, the leafy foliage that surround it make it one of the city’s most serene settings for a dip. It’s got a Balearic vibe thanks to the chilled house beats, and it’s just as pretty if you bag a sunbed on the beach, that leads out to the calm sea. For the best views, get a bed by the beach, for the best vibe, it’s always better to book a poolside lounger. On Thursdays, it’s ladies’ day, while on Friday and Saturday you can either opt for the brunch, or it’s Dhs250 for entry, but you’ll get it all back in food and drink.

Playa Nomade, Rixos The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, Thursday to Saturday. Tel: (054) 449 6464. @playanomade

Located on the 4th floor of The Address Dubai Marina, Shades expands over a large terrace overlooking the Marina and comes with a huge infinity pool that’s perfect for a leisurely swim. The twinkly buildings of JBR serve as a backdrop, and you’ll go far to find a better view of Dubai Marina from this rooftop pool.

Shades, 4th floor, Address Dubai Marina, 7am to 8pm, weekdays Dhs200 includes a Dhs100 food and drink voucher, weekends Dhs250 includes a Dhs125 food and drink voucher. Tel: (04) 888 3444. addresshotels.com

W Dubai – The Palm

You’ve no less than 12 pools to choose from if you head to the newly opened W Dubai – The Palm for a pool day. The archipelago of swimming pools are various lengths and depths, and are interrupted by patches of grass where you’ll find loungers neatly lined up for those wishing to brave the heat for some tan-topping. As well as in-water loungers, perfect for capturing that ‘gram shot, you can hire the shaded cabanas for a premium. Plus this summer, there’s a sliding scale discount across the hotel, where the hotter it gets, the bigger the discount you’ll get on your bill – provided you snap a picture on Instagram while you’re there.

Wet Deck, W Dubai – The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, daily, Dhs200 weekdays, Dhs300 weekends. Tel: (04) 245 5555. marriott.com

The Terrace, Burj Al Arab

When it comes to experiencing life poolside in the most luxurious fashion, the Burj Al Arab Terrace has to be one of the best in the world. A huge infinity pool juts out into the ocean surrounded on one side by plush day beds, and over the bridge you’ll find another pool with a swim up bar. They have two cabana options available for external guests, a regular or a royal cabana for four which comes complete with complimentary tea and coffee, fruit platter and a non alcoholic mini-bar, plus Dhs500 back to spend on food and drink. It’s Dhs2,000 for the regular cabana or Dhs3,500 for a royal one.
