The new RTA project will ease traffic congestion and reduce travelling time…

Travelling between Dubai and Sharjah is about to get a whole lot more efficient, as Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be open the new Tripoli Street Improvement project tomorrow, Wednesday July 24.

The Tripoli Street Improvement Project aims to enhance Dubai’s traffic system by improving the link between Dubai and Sharjah, bettering the flow of traffic and making access easier to Al Warqaa and Mirdif districts.

The project includes the construction of collector roads, two underpasses, widening Tripoli Street at various point, the construction of a three-lane bridge to serve the traffic inbound from Tripoli Street to Emirates Road in the direction of Sharjah, as well as improvement works to various roundabouts and intersections.

Here’s a handy map of what the project looks like:

Benefits of the traffic corridor include reducing the traffic flow on Sheikh Zayed Road by 10 percent and shortening the trip to Sharjah to 12 minutes. For those travelling the 12km between Sheikh Zayed Road and Emirates Road, travel time should be cut to around 8 minutes.

Reflecting on the benefits to commuters between Sharjah and Dubai, HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said of the project, “it will improve traffic safety along the corridor, and increase the traffic flow to about 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions (6000 vehicles per hour per direction). It will reduce the transit time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road by 64% from 11 to 4.5 minutes.”

Hopefully that should improve your morning commute between the emirates…
