Speculative Landscapes

This exhibition takes viewers into the imagined worlds of four emerging and UAE-based artists: Areej Kaoud, Ayman Zedani, Jumairy and Raja’a Khalid. Collectively, the artists in the exhibition explore the concept of environment, whether that is natural, artificial or virtual and each raises a question about how organisms survive in these different worlds.

Rendezvous in Paris: Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani & Co. (1900-1939)

Comprising more than 80 works by artists including Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Marc Chagall, Juan Gris, Chaïm Soutine, Constantin Brancusi and Tamara de Lempicka, this exhibition will trace the creative output of emigrant artists living and working in Paris throughout the first half of the 20th century. It explores the “Roaring 20s” in Paris and how it evolved as a bohemian hub for creative people across Europe.

Avoid Bad Dreams

This exhibition questions common ideas of home as a symbol of comfort, belonging and stability. The works include Emirati artist Afra Aldhaheri, Turkish artists Ali Kazma and Hale Tenger, German artist Heidi Bucher and Palestinian artist Shadi Habib Allahb, who each interrogate our attitude to objects, people and memories within familiar and symbolic forms.

Lasting Impressions

Where: Sharjah Art Museum
When: From Saturday September 21, 2019

This is a survey of work from the 1950s until today by Egyptian master Adam Henein. He is one of the most prominent postmodernist sculptors in the Arab world and uses simple lines to create sculptures and figures in a poetic manner. His subjects draw from his heritage and cultural background, whereas his form is timeless. This is a must-see show.

This is the first ever solo show of Abu Dhabi-born artist Sarah Almehairi. Photographs, maps, and memories from a summer visit to the US form the basis of this exhibition, which consists of both figurative and abstract works. The exhibition investigates not just what it means to be carving out an identity in a hyper-global world, but it also captures the artist’s own identity, readable along the walls like the lines of a poem.
