SUMMER. IS. OVER…

Monday, September 23 across the world marks the next equinox, when our sun is perfectly centred above the equator. In the UAE, that moment will be at 11.50am and we will therefore have exactly the same amount of hours in the daylight and as at night.

The equinox takes place around this time every year and officially marks the first day of autumn for the northern hemisphere and Spring for the southern hemisphere. This means for the UAE the days will begin to get shorter, nights get dark earlier, and the temperatures will drop (yes!!).

Over the next few weeks and months, you should start to see a drastic change in weather with humidity dropping, cooler temperatures and a nice breeze. The days will also get progressively shorter after today and by December, the sun will rise at around 7am and set at around 5.35pm in December.

The transition happens due to the tilt of earth on its axis. As the earth rotates around the sun, different intensities of light and heat reach the planet and this causes the seasons to change. The spring equinox occurs in March to signal the end of the winter period when days get longer and temperatures start to rise.

On December 22, we will see the seasons shift again, as the winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year. Gradually after that, we will make our way into spring when the next equinox takes place on March 20.
