Flying motorbikes… cooking robots… it’s just another day in Dubai…

GITEX Technology Week is back for its 39th edition and there’s plenty of exciting and innovative projects to see and explore. The exhibition is taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre until Thursday October 10, so you still have time if you want to check out the stalls for yourself.

Here are three super cool things we’ve already clocked at the exhibition.

1. A motorbike helicopter

Etisalat’s innovative stand is all about 5G connectivity, and the ways it can work with artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality and augmented reality. One of the most exciting products showcased is a motorbike helicopter named ‘Lazareth’. The flying bike can switch from being a regular motorcycle to its flight mode in less than 60 seconds, thanks to its four tilting wheels with jet turbines. According to Gulf News, the Lazareth team is expected to launch pre-orders during GITEX 2019 at a price tag of €496,000 (Dhs1,999,432).

2. A robotic chef making pancakes

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) presents Chez Mouza, the Emirati chef whipping up coffee and pancakes for GITEX’s revellers, but there’s a twist. Mouza is actually a pair of skilled robotic arms who uses utensils, raw ingredients and cooking tools to prepare the perfect dish every time. He can crack eggs, mix batter, flip pancakes and serve coffee, with no complaints whatsoever.

3. The Virgin Hyperloop One

Hyperloop One is the transport system everyone is waiting for, to be able to take us from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in just 12 minutes. The electromagnetically levitated pods will travel through low-pressure tubes at speeds of up to 1,223.1 kilometres per hour. If you head down to GITEX, you’ll be able to explore the pods for yourself and see how the experience will impact passengers.
