Don’t worry, they won’t bite…

Want to swim among marine life but too nervous to try scuba diving? Fans of fish, sharks and stingrays will love the new Aquatrek Xtreme attraction at Atlantis The Palm, where you can head 10 metres underwater in The Ambassador Lagoon aquarium.

The best part is that you don’t need any diving experience, or to even be a strong swimmer – all of the exploring is done by walking. After a quick briefing, you’ll be given a backpack with your air supply and fitted with a helmet that feeds your air supply, keeping all of the water well away from your head.

You’ll have a trainer with you throughout the whole experience to make sure you’re safe and guide you through your aquatrek. As you make your way down the ladder, you might find yourself surrounded by a school of yellowbar angelfish, shadowed by a giant honeycomb stingray, or monitored by a grey reef shark.

With 65,000 marine life in the tank, you’ll get plenty of opportunity to come face-to-face with the stunning creatures. You can also shoot your entire experience on a GoPro so that you’ll remember it forever.

Aquatrek Xtreme is the deepest aquatrek in the world, taking you down 10 metres (32 feet) into the water. You will feel a little pressure as you make your way down but you’ll be taught a few equalising tricks beforehand. The trainer will be by your side in case you have any problems.

Prices start from Dhs720 per person and the entire experience will last around one hour. All of your equipment, towels and wetsuit will be provided, so you just need to bring your swimwear. There are sessions daily at 1pm and 4pm, with up to four guests per group.

Atlantis the Palm, Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, daily 1pm and 4pm, from Dhs720. Tel: (04) 426 0000. atlantisthepalm.com
