Schools across Dubai and the Northern Emirates will be closed on Wednesday November 20, the Ministry of Education has confirmed.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the government authority said that schools would be closed on Wednesday due to “unstable weather”. Schools are expected to reopen on Thursday November 21.

The weather forecast for Wednesday suggests rainfall with thunder and lightening at times and wind speeds of up to 55 kilometres per hour forecast. This will blow up dust across the country, causing poor visibility along with the heavy clouds – so be careful when driving.

The announcement from the Ministry of Education came late on Tuesday November 19. The Tweet read, “The Ministry of Education is keen on the safety of students and due to the fluctuations in weather and prevailing weather conditions, it was decided to disable all schools in Dubai and Northern Emirates on Wednesday”.

High winds and poor visibility will continue through to Thursday November 21, with a chance of more rainfall. This will continue over the weekend with cloudy weather and chance of rainfall, and wind speeds of up to 45 kilometres per hour.
