Perhaps inspired by the rapturous reception recently given to his old pal Gary Barlow in the UAE, Robbie Williams has announced his own headline show in the UAE.

The former Take That man will take to the stage at Abu Dhabi’s du Arena, Yas Island on April 26, 2015 as part of his worldwide ‘Let Me Entertain You’ tour.

Williams, who has recently just become a father for the second time to Charlton Valentine, with wife Ayda Field, is embarking on his first tour

In a teaser trailer for the shows, Williams heavily hinted that he would reel off all the tunes for which he is best known, asking “Do you know the words my famous phrases… you’ll hear all my biggest songs.”

The tour itself kicks off in March in Madrid, Spain, and takes in 13 destinations, including Poland, Lithuania, France, Russia and, of course, the United Arab Emirates. Many of the locations will be witnessing his zaney stage show for the very first time.

Williams was last in the region in 2006, when he played to a sold out crowd in Nad Al Shebha, Dubai. He turned 40 this year and he says he’s aware of the toll a world tour can take.

“I know that time isn’t on my side like it used to be,” he said. “I’m conscious of age but I’m more suspicious of it than anything. This crossroads – being 39-40 – it means something, but I don’t know what it is yet. OK, I’m a pop star who’s ageing, what do you want from me? What happens now?”

One of the most enigmatic pop stars from the past 20 years, Robbie has rarely been away from the headlines and has lived a life of constant ups and downs.

He’s sold out stadiums, but he’s also had spells of being a recluse at his home in Los Angeles (where he’s lived since 2000). He’s been overweight, and then fit and trim, with every fluctuation documented by the eagle-eyed paparazzi. He’s been in a successful boyband, and he’s enjoyed a hit solo career. He’s had public feuds with famous people and and then manufactured high profile reconciliations. He has offended and wowed in equal measure. One thing’s for sure, his Abu Dhabi gig will be anything but boring.

Tickets start from Dhs295 and go on sale on Thursday November 6 from www.ticketmaster.ae.
