Love it or hate it, the iconic Dhs2billion tourism project – Dubai Canal – is well underway.

When complete, the mammoth waterway expansion will cut through the heart of the city joining Dubai Creek with Jumeirah Beach, therefore a lot of the greenery in Safa Park needs to go to make way for the new development.

While the beloved park is now largely closed for the canal construction, residents are turning to the newly renovated Al Khazzan Park as their Safa Park alternative.

Al Khazzan Park

Famous for its stunning – and often instagrammed – 1980s 40m-high water tank, Al Khazzan Park has been brought back to life and is now entirely powered by solar energy systems.

According to a report in Gulf News, Brand Dubai, a subsidiary of the Government of Dubai Media Office, in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, gave the park a facelift as part of the “Dubai Speaks to you” initiative that aims to highlight the unique characteristics of Dubai as a culturally diverse city.

Located just before CityWalk shopping centre, between the first interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Road, What’s On headed down to the new park to check it out:

A manicured pathway leads up to a circular, open-air pavilion in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, workers were putting the finishing touches to the surrounding lawns.

A large, colourful children’s play area is located at the front and the powerful solar panals can be seen at the back.

The revamp of the hoarding around Al Khazzan Park has been completed and tastefully decorated. Just in front of the blue and white water tower is a large grass-covered wall with the phrase “The Road To Happiness’ etched on the façade.
