It’s been reporting Dubai news since 2003, but 7DAYS will sadly shut down this year.

For the past 13 years 7DAYS has been reporting on the news of Dubai – but the institution will sadly completely close its doors this year, printing its final newspaper on Thursday December 22.

Not even the popular website will carry on, with the brand’s digital presence also completely shutting down this year too.

The newspaper has become known for its community focussed news that tells diverse stories from across Dubai, as well as its sometimes comedy but often relevant and insightful letters’ page.

Initial rumours over the summer suggested that the paper would continue as a weekly rather than a daily due to the battle for print advertising and that the website would continue to report the news, but it turns out that’s not the case.

“The current trading environment and future global outlook for print advertising remains severely challenged,” explains 7Days CEO Mark Rix. “Whilst it was our stated intention to re-focus and restructure the business for 2017 and beyond, it has since proved not possible to create an acceptable cost base that could deliver a viable and sustainable business.

“It is therefore with great sadness that we announce the unique 7DAYS news brand will close and thus, cease to inform and entertain the UAE in its refreshing and inimitable way.”
