Watch: Royal family’s love of animals trumps construction project

Notch this one up as another reason why the UAE Royal family are a true class act…

A video surfaced on Instagram yesterday showing footage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces touring a construction site in Dubai.

During the visit, the two rulers encountered a houbara bustard – an endangered UAE bird – laying eggs within the vicinity of the site. Doing the only thing that true animal-loving royals could, they then ordered the project to be shifted to another location so that the eggs could be left to hatch in peace.

Posted by Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nayhan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, the video has since received over 30,000 views and hundreds of comments praising both Sheikhs for their efforts to help preserve the animal’s natural habitat. Like we said, a true class act.

This is not the first time that the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi has crossed paths with the houbara bustard, having set up an ongoing rehabilitation projected entitled the International Fund for Houbara Conservation. The bird continues to play an important part in Emirati culture, essential in the art of falconry as well a being a vital part of the food chain in the ecosystem of the UAE.
