The midnight meal that comes alive over Ramadan…

Everyone who lives in Dubai should try a Suhoor at least once – officially the pre-dawn meal consumed by fasters just before the sun appears, the term also means the gatherings that are held across the UAE from about 9pm over Ramadan.

This is a time to meet with friends, family and business connections and talk about the year that was (and the year ahead). So, whether you’re a Suhoor regular or you just want to witness the UAE tradition from an anthropological perspective, here are 14 Suhoors to try in the city…  

1. The Address Dubai Mall

It’s an adults-only affair for suhoor in the Ramadan Zayna tent at Cabana. Located in a beautiful setting around the poolside, there’s an a la carte menu of Middle Eastern and international cuisine, along with live music and special Ramadan juices. Elsewhere, Na3Na3 is hosting a suhoor buffet from 9pm to 11pm for Dhs190.

2. Atlantis, The Palm
COST: A la carte

The suhoor a la carte menu at the famous Asateer tent will be on offer from 9pm until 2.30am. Admittance to suhoor will be only for 21 year olds and above and shisha will be available for guests to enjoy for Dhs95.

3. Burj Al Arab

Suhoor at Scape, the cool Californian restaurant on the terrace of Burj Al Arab. Choose from the a la carte or three-course Arabic set menu. Shisha is also provided.

Popular for its buzzing souk-style ambience, Suq’s suhoor at Four Seasons Resort Dubai offers a dedicated a la carte menu of Middle Eastern cuisine, with menu highlights including kishek manakish, served piping hot from the pizza oven. Guests may also order Ramadan juices, soft drinks as well as tea and coffee, and shisha is available on request.
