Organisers were unable to secure a suitable alternative location…

Back in April, we reported that Dubai’s oldest English language library was on the hunt for a new home due to its current location, the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (DUCTAC) at Mall of the Emirates, being earmarked for further development by the mall’s management.

Sadly, it appears that things haven’t progressed for the better, as DUCTAC announced yesterday via its website and social media channels that it will be permanently closing down.

The local community theatre had been searching for a new location since the beginning of the year but has decided to close its doors due to the lack of a suitable alternative venue being found.

“We have been working diligently to locate alternative premises that would offer our customers and patrons an enhanced DUCTAC experience that reflects the evolution of the creative and arts community,” reads the official statement from centre.

“Unfortunately we were unable to find a suitable location. As a result we have taken the difficult decision to close our current facilities.”

DUCTAC had previously been expected to move to a new location at Mirdif City Centre, but it appears that this has fallen through.

It’s a sad day, as the centre has been a hub for art and creativity in the emirate since it opened its doors in 2006.
