Excitement is building in Dubai Media City, where the final preparations are being made for the What’s On Awards 2013, which take place on Wednesday November 27.

The awards, in association with Dubai First, are now in their twelfth year and celebrate the UAE’s cream of the crop in hospitality, entertainment and leisure. Last month saw Hakkasan take home the title of Abu Dhabi’s Restaurant of the Year, while Cyril Calmet of Bord Eau claimed the chef’s prize. Gary Rhodes’ Rhodes 44 won best newcomer.

But now the focus is fully on Dubai. The event, which takes place under the stars at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre, will announce winners in more than 25 categories. It is, without doubt, the most sought after prize within the food, drink and entertainment industries.

A wholly public voted affair – and you guys don’t mess about, do you? – it’s the culmination of a lot of hard work from the What’s On team and, more importantly, recognition for some truly outstanding restaurants, bars and events.

Industry wide respect for the coveted What’s On Awards is clearly reflected in both the phenomenal response to this annual event and the respect given from those in the business. A major contributing factor is the unique transparency and fairness with which the awards are allocated.

Last year saw victories for Roberto’s (newcomer of the year), Gary Rhodes (chef) and Table 9 by Nick and Scott (restaurant), while those going home with the trophy on Wednesday are…………………. well, I guess you will have to check back on Thursday to find out if your favourite spot won.
